Winter Camps Turn Out Over 90 Players

From December 24, 2018 through January 4, 2019, the Tommy Hutton Baseball Academy hosted a series of skills camps at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter FL. Over 90 local and out of town players turned out for an action-packed two weeks of FUNdamental instruction in sunny south Florida.

Visits from former major leaguer Rick Ankiel and Santa Clause highlighted the THBA’s skills camp held December 24-28. Ankiel’s visit consisted of a meet and greet with a 30 minute Q&A session. The former pitcher turned outfielder told his amazing story and personally signed a copy of his NY Times bestseller, The Phenomenon for each camp attendee. St. Nick himself made a stop and treated the camp to a fun Strike Out Santa competition on December 24th that also featured last minute wish list requests and baseball themed giveaways. Coaches Brian Justine and Ray White, both former minor league players, led the 4-day instructional sessions where players received hundreds of repetitions to help develop skill.

The following week featured two specialty camps focused on hitting and pitching. Coach Ray White led the THBA’s hitting camp that turned out a capacity crowd of young hitters. Participants received detailed swing instruction and then rotated through a hitting and agility circuit followed by batting practice in the cages at Roger Dean. Coach Brian Justine led the pitching camp where 30 hurlers ages 6-13 took part in drills and bullpen sessions from January 2-4, 2019. Miami Marlins pitcher Tyler Kinley led the instruction on January 4th. Kinley watched all 30 pitchers work off the mound and then provided feedback and tips to improve.

The THBA will be back in action from March 18-22 for Spring Break Camp. Only 50 spots are available for this very popular camp that includes admission to two spring training games at Roger Dean. Click here to register.
