MLB Spring Training at the heart of Spring Break Camp
The Tommy Hutton Baseball Academy will be hosting their annual Spring Break Skills camp from March 18-March 22; 9a.m.-3p.m. at Independence Middle School’s baseball field, located just steps away from Roger Dean. With Major League Baseball’s Spring Training in full swing during the month of March, the THBA will be conducting baseball training next door at IMS each morning and then making the short trip to Roger Dean each afternoon to take part in Spring Training action!
“This camp has always been one of our most popular events. This time of year in Palm Beach County is special and very unique so we are intentional about keeping Spring Training at the heart of our program during the spring. We want to expose as many young players to the excitement and thrill of spring training so we take them to two games, chase autographs on the back fields and arrange a meet and greet with a Marlins or Cardinals player. A few years ago our guest was reigning NL MVP Christian Yelich. Prior to that, World Series hero Jason Motte met with the camp. What a thrill that was!” exclaimed THBA Director Brian Justine.
The THBA’s spring camp is limited to only 50 spots. Attendees will be dropped of each morning at IMS in Abacoa where Coaches Brian Justine and Ray White will lead a FUNdamental instructional program until noon each day. The morning sessions will cover all aspects of the game and includes small group instruction with tons of repetitions to help players build good habits. Lunch will be held at noon and then the camp will travel to Roger Dean for an afternoon activity. On Tuesday and Friday, the group will be inside the stadium for spring training action (Mets vs. Marlins on Tuesday; Marlins vs. Nationals on Friday). Monday will feature a trip to the RDS practice fields to watch the pros workout and chase autographs followed by a snow cone party at Bahama Bucks Abacoa. On Wednesday afternoon. the THBA has arranged a meet and greet with a major league player followed by a round of mini-golf at Golden Cub Abacoa. On Thursday, the camp will remain at IMS all day and take part in the MLB Pitch Hit & Run competition and a speed and agility session with SAS Jupiter.
