Mental Skills Training Added to Camp Program

mental game of baseball, mental performance training

New for all 2020 THBA camps! Using renowned mental skills  coach Harvey Dorfman’s bestseller The Mental Game of Baseball as curriculum, the Tommy Hutton Baseball Academy will administer daily 20 minute workshops aimed at helping young players develop healthy mental skills.

“I couldn’t be more excited about adding Harvey’s principles to our program! We have always tried to help our students develop skills that will help them enjoy the game and be the best player they can. Developing the mental side of things, for so many reasons, has become arguably as important as the physical. Just as there are fundamentals in place to hit, throw, and field properly, there are also many important fundamentals on how best to approach the game mentally. This is where I see a void in terms of young players receiving essential information so we’re thrilled to take the lead on starting the conversation,” commented THBA founder Brian Justine.

Harvey Dorfman, who passed away in 2011, became a household name in the baseball community as he helped countless major league players conquer mental issues effecting their peak performance. Local legend Rick Ankiel, who has been a guest instructor at several THBA events, has given Dorfman credit for helping him overcome challenges he was facing during his playing career. Ankiel served as life skills coordinator for the Washington Nationals after retiring, using many of the lessons he learned from Dorfman.

Tommy Hutton Baseball camps were established in 2000 with the mission of impacting the baseball community by creating a positive learning environment where young players can develop FUNdamentals and high character.  Registration for all 2020 instructional camps is underway and can be accessed by clicking here.
